Our History

On January 16, 1920, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated was founded at Howard University in Washington DC. by Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings and Fannie Pettie Watts. From the beginning, the Founders of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority set forth the legacy of our principles of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood to serve our communities for over a century.

GATZ Charter Members

Building on the foundation of being a community conscious, action-oriented service organization in during the centennial year for the sorority in 2020 thirteen visionary women expanded the reach of Zeta in chartering Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta on October 10, 2020, serving Penn Hills PA and the surrounding areas.

The dynamic charter members are Jenifer Abraham, Brittany Dreher, Maryn Formley, Nneka Hawthorne, Latifa Miller, Aesha Rice, Denna Zenmon, Sharron Boddy-Adedipe, Tamika M. Duck, LaTonya Frazier, Rhonda Anderson Marks Esq., Niyah L. Pope, and Deja Starks. Serving our greater community and building on the principles was the first priority that brought our trailblazing charter members together. One of our first service projects included providing breast cancer awareness and registering people to vote along with providing rides to the polls. We were awarded the Toys for Tots Commenders Award in 2020. Recognizing that we are only as good as working with the people we serve, Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta has continued the national partnerships of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated raising funds for March of Dimes. Locally some of our partners included VEEEM, Daughters of Zion, and Lincoln Park Community Center Food Pantry. In 2022 we were able to give away our first scholarship the LaTonya Frazier Overcomer scholarship. The thirteen trailblazers have assisted in the growth of our chapter in doubling it’s size from our gracious thirteen to chapter list that has grown to over 30 members. From the vision of our founders to the work of our charter members Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta Chapter vision is to continue to provide groundbreaking service and grace that upholds our principles in Western Pennsylvania.
